Generally\nspeaking, energy storage services can either be located in front-of-the-meter\nor behind-the-meter. Front-of-the-meter applications are those utilized by\nutilities and grid operators; they include frequency regulation, capacity\nreserve, etc. Behind-the-meter applications are customer-sited and perform some\nfunction directly beneficial to the end user such as demand reduction\/peak\nshaving, power backup, energy time shifting, etc. On a different perspective\n(dimension), energy storage could be deployed adopting different spatial\napproaches. To minimize as much as possible the capital costs, assets could be\ncentralized in big storage plants or, in order to provide regulation closer to\nthe edge of the grid (closer to the end users), assets could be decentralized\nin many (small) storage units. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the\nASSEM Pilot a distributed management of storage units will be tested.\nApparatuses will be deployed on the LV grid and will be coordinated by a TLC\nchannel in order for cooperate to provide front-of-the-meter regulations.\nMoreover, behind-the-meter regulations will also be tested evaluating a more\nclassical final user\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
